Tourism is the key industry contributing to economic growth of the country. Given the lucrative nature of the industry, key development projects are largely led by the private sector with Government’s role focused in providing a conducive regulatory and management/ monitoring framework. Project Scope The project seeks to strengthen the regulatory and management responsibilities of the Tourism ministry by supporting the following areas:
Capacity building
- Capacity building and exposure to Ministry staff in best practices for monitoring adherence with regulatory framework governing the sector
Strengthening Regulatory Framework
- Review of the existing regulatory framework and propose amendments to existing regulations and laws with the aim of providing a business friendly set of laws and regulations for the sector – for both tourist resorts and guest houses
Tourism Information Management System (TIMS) Enhancements
- TIMS aims to provide online services to the tourism related stakeholders in submission for permits and other operational licenses/approvals for development and operation of tourist establishments. The system remains partially developed, with the Ministry looking for assistance in development of the remaining modules to launch the system.
Formulation of the 5th Tourism Masterplan and Review of the 4th Tourism Master Plan
- The most recent tourism master plan (TMP4) ended in 2017, and the Ministry seeks assistance in identifying and developing the strategic direction and action plan of the sector for the next 5 years, which will guide the immediate and longterm growth trajectory of the sector.
