Establishment of a Rehabilitation Centre:
Currently, Maldives does not have a facility that provides early intervention for youth in need of guidance. This proposal seeks to establish a rehabilitation facility, which will provide behavioural therapy though counselling, and rehabilitation services. Research on Mental Health and Gang Violence Amongst Youth: Voluntary youth unemployment coupled with gang related violence has been on the rise in the Maldives. There is a need for a proper study on the link between gangs and mental health issues in the Maldives. The proposal aims to conduct an indepth research to understand the linkages and reasons leading to mental health issues and gang violence amongst youth. This study will also draw recommendations from related fields and grassroots level in making evidence-based policies.
National Youth Leadership Programme:
This programme will provide the participants with hands on experience of a leader’s role in community, and will help to build a positive selfimage. At the end of the programme participants will be able to identify one’s own characteristics and talents. It will also give exposure to working as a team and will equip participants with social skills required in future interactions. This programme aims to reduce unemployment rates, participation of youth in crimes, increase the number of youth working in civil society as well as the number of youth active in leadership roles.
