The newly appointed Ambassador of Maldives to Germany Ahmed Latheef presented Letters of Credence to the German Federal President Fran-Walter Steinmeier in an official ceremony held at the Schloss Bellevue today.
During the meeting held after the Credentials Ceremony, President Steinmeier congratulated and welcomed Ambassador Latheef to Germany and expressed his sincere hope that the bilateral relations between the two countries will be further strengthened during his tenure.
Ambassador Latheef thanked President Steinmeier for the warm welcome and conveyed warm greetings from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the people of Maldives. Ambassador Latheef stated that Maldives attaches utmost importance to its relations with Germany and EU and appreciates the continued support and cooperation from Germany.
Ambassador Latheef also highlighted that tourism is the largest economic industry in the Maldives and Germany has always been an important tourism market, with tourist arrivals amongst the highest from Europe. He assured the commitment of the government and the people of Maldives to further enhance the existing relations with Germany.
Ambassador Latheef is the second resident Ambassador accredited to Germany to represent Maldives, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries on July 5, 1966.
